Brewers Description of Summer Piraat Beer:
“This light ambercoloured Piraat with full foam head overwhelms with an aroma of bitter, spicy, malty and alcoholic scents. What follows is a perfect combination of malty, sweet and hopbitter tastes, after which you are drowned in a very long, semi-sweet after taste with bitter undertone.
On the table
A tremendous digestive beer that, given a good maturation in the cellar, has a great evolution but delights your tastebuds with a tasty wild dish or a foie gras…!
With ripe and elegant cheese, such as Remoudou, Wynendaele, Trou d’Sottai or Vieux Chimay;”
Summer Piraat Beer
Heavy
Piraat was select on a whim. I was seduced by the label with the pirate ship, water, and sunny sky. Bottom line first, this was not a summer beer according of our criteria of a summer beer. The beer poured with a dark peach color and heavy head. It really had no discernible aroma. The flavor was rich with dense molasses, hopps, and a tart malt. It was really heavy, which is simply not appealing on a warm summer day. It also had a little bitter aftertaste.
Piraat may be great for alternate occasions, but for summer it just did not float our boat.
